UKABC Roundtable for The Honourable Tengku Zafrul Aziz, Minister of Investment of Malaysia

UKABC Chief Executive Ian Gibbons OBE was delighted to host the UK-ASEAN Business Council (UKABC) roundtable for The Honourable Tengku Zafrul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia on Friday in London. This roundtable, delivered in partnership with Standard Chartered Malaysia and the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC), followed hard on the heels of the highly productive roundtable with captains of industry hosted by Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim and the first UK-Malaysia Joint Economic and Trade Committee meeting on Thursday 16 January.
Friday’s roundtable comprised a who’s who of leading UK companies with substantial and substantive operations in Malaysia. An impressive cross-section of all three organisations’ senior members across the education, financial, insurance, banking, business management and manufacturing sectors came together for a wide-ranging conversation with the Minister.
The interaction included the Minister’s reflections covering the JETCO held successfully the previous day, the broad and deep UK-Malaysia trade and investment relationship generally and, importantly, how Malaysia - as Chair of ASEAN in 2025 - with its theme of ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’ - will work both singularly and crucially with its ASEAN partners as we lead up to the ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting and ASEAN Business and Investment Summit later this year.
