UKABC’s Chair Lord Vaizey leads high-profile UK business delegation and programme to the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) Vientiane, Laos, 8-11 October

UKABC’s Chair, Lord Vaizey of Didcot, and Chief Executive, Ian Gibbons led the UK’s business delegation and UK business programme during the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) and Outlook on the Indo-Pacific Forum in Vientiane, Laos from the 8-11 October.

This programme, delivered in close partnership with the UK Mission to ASEAN and the Department for Business and Trade, presented a ‘One UK team’ offer to Laos, as Chair of ASEAN in 2024, and was designed to support and showcase the UK’s wider engagement with ASEAN and individual ASEAN member states.

Highlights from the UKABC curated programme included:

  • Speaking slots to profile UK expertise in supply chain resilience, ASEAN connectivity and ASEAN Digital transformation.

  • A briefing lunch with Richard Bolwijn, Head of Investment Research at UN Trade and Development to discuss the ASEAN Investment Report 2024 and wider investment trends in the region.

  • Lunch discussion with the ASEAN BAC Malaysia focussed on Malaysia’s business priorities as Chair of ASEAN in 2025.

  • A programme of bilateral meetings with KADIN, Philippines BAC ASEAN, Cambodian Chamber of Commerce / Cambodia BAC.

The UKABC business delegation included UK and Southeast Asian-based representatives from leading UK companies including ACCA, BDO LLP, Crown Agents Bank, HSBC, Jardines, KPMG, Mott MacDonald, Newcastle University, The Premier League, PwC UK, PwC Singapore and Standard Chartered Bank.
