UKABC Dialogue with the Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE)
London - UKABC Partners participated in a roundtable discussion, hosted by BP plc, with the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), focusing on the ASEAN Power Grid and strategies to achieve Carbon Neutrality across the region.
UKABC Chair, Lord Vaizey, moderated an insightful roundtable discussion with Dato’ Ir. Ts. Abdul Razib bin Dawood, Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Energy. Representatives from UKABC partners, including Arup, Mott MacDonald, bp, Standard Chartered, PwC, KPMG, and the Connected Places Catapult, participated in an insightful discussion on the challenges, policy frameworks, and collaborative opportunities necessary to enhance renewable energy cross-border interconnection.
During the discussion, Dato’ Razib outlined key challenges in increasing the share of renewable energy in ASEAN’s total primary energy supply, a critical step toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. He highlighted the need for electricity grid modernisation, investment in cross-border infrastructure, and expanded regional energy trade as essential enablers.
The ASEAN Power Grid initiative (APG), projected to require a total system build cost of $250bn by 2040, stands as a core pillar in Southeast Asia’s energy transition. ACE encouraged UKABC partners to contribute their expertise in infrastructure development and financing to support the APG and boost regional energy capacity.
ACE thanked UKABC partners for sharing their insights and invited UKABC to participate in the Annual Energy Business Forum from 15-17 October in Kuala Lumpur.
