Expanding CPTPP - Preparatory Discussions begin for potential Indonesia and the Philippines accession

The UK-ASEAN Business Council welcomes the announcement by CPTPP members that preparatory discussions will begin with the Philippines and Indonesia on their potential accession to the agreement.

The continued expansion of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership to include these leading Southeast Asian economies would represent a positive step in strengthening regional trade links and enhancing the UK’s access to growing trade and investment opportunities across ASEAN.

The full joint ministerial statement can be read here. Guidance for UK businesses seeking to take advantage of existing CPTPP arrangements can be accessed via this [link].

UKABC’s Chair and Chief Executive also look forward to leading business delegations to Manila in September for the ASEAN Economic Ministers meeting and in November for the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit.
