CPTPP Entry into Force - Guidance and Links

The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) has now entered into force between the UK and 8 other members: Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, Chile, Peru, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Brunei, and will enter into force with Australia on 24 December 2024.

Canada and Mexico have yet to ratify the UK’s accession to CPTPP so the UK will not be able to use provisions with those countries. We will continue to update you on any progress and subsequent entry into force dates.

CPTPP Guidance Documents

The Department for Business and Trade’s Free Trade Agreement Utilisation Team has created a series of guidance documents explaining the benefits of CPTPP and how companies can utilise the agreement, including guidance on proving rules of origin, accessing simpler customs, and benefiting from zero tariffs. There is also detailed information on different sectors and market opportunities and the steps companies need to take to utilise the agreement.

The guidance is published on individual market pages on great.gov.uk.

CHEG: Check how to export goods online tool

You can now access CPTPP tariffs in the check how to export goods online tool (CHEG) (for ratified countries).

For countries where we have bilateral trade agreements as well as CPTPP, CHEG will show the different tariff rates available. The UK Integrated Online Tariff Tool also lets you check import duties and allows you to check the status of available tariff rate quotes.
