Contractors required for the design, supply and installation of roller gates

The Public Utilities Board has called a tender for pre-tender qualification of contractors for the design, supply, supervision of installation, testing and commissioning of roller gates.

It is anticipated that there will be five (5) Design and Build (D&B) tunnel contracts. A total of about 50km tunnels and link sewers will be constructed by Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs), with diameter ranging from 3m to 6m. Over 50 deep shafts will be designed and constructed in DTSS2 with depths ranging from 25m to 65m. The South and Industrial Tunnels will incorporate facilities for the use of roller gates at 17 gate shafts and 14 vortex chambers to allow maintenance work to be carried out in the tunnels, if required.

The appointed contractor for roller gates will be required to design (including design coordination with the D&B tunnel contractors), supply, supervision of installation (of gate guides), test installation and testing and commissioning of roller gates at the various shaft locations to accommodate these facilities.

The isolation and diversion roller gates will be used at the gate shafts and vortex chambers respectively to isolate a tunnel length between 2 gate shafts. As the likelihood of instigating tunnel isolation or flow diversion is remote, a minimum number of roller gates will be procured for tunnel isolation at any one time. It is planned to keep all roller gates off-site in a dedicated Gates Storage Warehouse which will be provided for under a separate contract. The roller gates and associated drum hoists will be transported to site only when there is a need for use at particular shaft locations. The drum hoist equipment is required to lower and raise the roller gates in a shaft/vortex chamber.
