The government has received approximately £62m from the World Bank for a project to renovate the education system

Support is required to implement the project. The project’s main outputs between 2016 and 2020 include:

– a new curriculum for general education to be introduced
– guidelines for textbook publishers
– a set of textbooks that will need government approval
– giving disadvantaged students access to new textbooks
– textbooks to be translated in both Vietnamese and in selected ethnic minority languages
– a functional online training system for teachers
– an expanded national large-scale assessment system to be developed and put into operation
– raise student learning outcomes
– develop and implement a curriculum following a competency-based approach
– aligning teaching with the revised curriculum and textbooks
– aligning student assessments to the revised curriculum
