UKABC Chair, Baroness Neville-Rolfe met with the UK Heads of Mission in Southeast Asia, the Department for International Trade (DIT) and the PM’s Trade Envoy Richard Graham MP in London to discuss deepening the UK-ASEAN trade relationship and creating greater opportunities for UK business in the dynamic region of Southeast Asia.
The meeting was an opportunity for UKABC, DIT and the respective High Commissioners and Ambassadors to provide an update on the significant work already underway in Southeast Asia and coordinate the plans for the future. The UK has a mission in all ten countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, including to the ASEAN Secretariat, and has a long history of engagement with the region.
Total trade in goods and services between the UK and ASEAN member states was £37.2 billion in 2018. With a population of 650 million and a growing middle class, the opportunities for UK business are significant.
