On 12 July, a host of business guests and senior figures from across government descended on HSBC’s beautiful venue at St James’s Park for the UK-ASEAN Business Council’s Summer Reception.
This highlight in the UKABC calendar brought together UK and ASEAN Ambassadors and High Commissioners, the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to the region – Richard Graham MP, business representatives from British investors in ASEAN, and UK SMEs blazing a trail to the region. The atmosphere was positive and energetic and has provided lots of follow-up.
UKABC Chairman Kevan Watts said on the night “I am proud of what this small UKABC team has achieved over the past year but let’s be even more visible in ASEAN… I want us to open our first UKABC office in the coming year”.
Richard Graham MP said, “The best way we can celebrate ASEAN’s 50th anniversary this year is by increasing trade and investment between the UK and ASEAN”.
Vicki Treadell – High Commissioner to Malaysia – gave an impassioned and hugely positive outlook for British business in Southeast Asia, saying “despite Brexit, ‘Brand Britain’ has never been stronger in the region, but we need more UK companies to fly the flag in the region and we are here to help!”
