Douglas has worked in DIT and its predecessor organisations for more than 20 years. Before taking up post in Yangon, Burma, on 1 May 2016, Douglas was HM Consul General Ho Chi Minh City and Director of DIT Vietnam (2012 – 2016); and Head of the Advanced Engineering and Mass Transport team, based in Beijing, in DIT China (2008 -2012). Other DIT positions he has held include: Head of the Environmental Industries Sector Unit (2003 – 2008); Head of the North African Section; and Deputy Head of the North American Section, in DIT’s Fairs and Promotion Branch, all at DIT HQ in London.  He was also seconded to the Ministry of Environment, in London, between 1991 –1995.

As Director of Trade and Investment, Burma, Douglas’ responsibility includes leading and developing the DIT team in Burma to deliver support to UK companies who are doing business or seeking to do business in the market, by helping these UK companies to develop and win new business.

Before his departure from HCMC, he held the position as Dean of the Consular Corps in Ho Chi Minh City.
