About this workshop
Digital health is transforming healthcare in Vietnam. Demographic changes, alongside an increase in disposable income and resilient economic growth, have fostered rising demand for quality healthcare. Digital technologies come as a key enabler to empower patients to actively participate in their care, improve clinical outcomes and enhance operational efficiency.
This workshop will provide insight into the current state and future direction of digital healthcare transformation in Vietnam and discuss how UK expertise can contribute to this. It will also feature the launch of the ‘Digital health in Vietnam’ report, which highlights key opportunities the Vietnam market has to offer for UK providers of innovative solutions.
The event is organised by the British Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in collaboration with the UK-ASEAN Business Council, Oxford University Clinical Research Unit and KPMG Vietnam.
Overview
Over the past two decades, Vietnam has achieved impressive improvements in key quality of life metrics, such as life expectancy, infant mortality, and access to affordable medicines. According to the World Bank, from 1993 to 2017, the infant mortality rate decreased from 32.6 to 16.7 (per 1,000 live births) while life expectancy increased from 70.5 to 76.3. This success is the result of the Vietnamese government’s concerted effort to modernise the health system and expand access to affordable care.
Vietnam still has a relatively high out-of-pocket expense ratio, while spending the most in the region as a share of GDP on its healthcare system. Digital health transformation may have the potential to support further expansion of access to quality care, sustainable health financing, and provision of a broader range of services while expending fewer resources per patient.
This workshop aims to provoke discussion on the adoption of digital health in Vietnam and discuss potential areas for Vietnam and the UK to collaborate.
Areas of discussion
- Understanding the ambition for digital healthcare transformation in Vietnam
- Sharing of best practice from Ho Chi Minh City health authorities on maintaining delivery of non-communicable disease (NCD) care during the COVID-19 pandemic
- To what extent COVID-19 has revealed a need to accelerate the adoption of digital technology to ensure continuity of care
- Opportunities for Vietnam and the UK to collaborate to accelerate digital transformation in healthcare
Who this workshop is suitable for
This workshop is suitable for all UK companies working in the healthcare sector interested in expanding operations to Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
