Burma has an appetite for international education. The government is planning to increase the budget allocation for the education sector, from 3% to 8% of GDP (£709 million to £152 million) and generally favours the UK’s standards and qualifications.
Due to the vast skills shortage across many sectors and the lack of vocational skills particularly at a higher education level, expanding and strengthening the quality of technical and vocational training is one of the key highlight areas in reforming the new education system according to Burma’s National Education Strategic Plan (2016- 2021).
Key Opportunities:
- Demand from Myanmar education businesses who are keen to partner with UK education companies in Higher Education as delivery partners.
Douglas Barnes, Director of Department for International Trade in Burma, is visiting London on 14th December and would like to meet with UK Education and training providers to discuss the opportunities and challenges in the market.
