Southeast Asia today boasts the third largest population in the world with over 625 million people. It is the 6th largest global economy and 3rd largest in Asia. More than half the population is under the age of 30 and almost 50% live in urban areas.
Singapore is Chair of the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) for 2018 and its tagline is ‘Resilient and Innovative’. The focus for the year will include the Digital Economy and will seek to connect ASEAN’s people and economies seamlessly in a network of ASEAN smart cities. One of ASEAN’s greatest challenges is ensuring that all parts of society can benefit from economic growth, no matter whether in a major city or a remote village.
Join an engaging discussion on the opportunities for inclusive growth and the challenges of disruptive threats that technology can bring to this dynamic region. This event is co-hosted by Kings Business School, the London Asia Pacific Centre, the Consumer and Organisational Digital Analytics (CODA) Research Centre, and the UK-ASEAN Business Council.
Our panel discussion will focus on the following:
The ASEAN Digital Economy: How Can Technology Provide Greater Opportunity for ASEAN’s Growth? What are the threats to watch out for?
An open forum discussion lead by a panel of experts on Southeast Asia followed by Q&A:
- Rozana Binte Abdul Majid, Deputy High Commissioner, Singapore High Commission
- Donny Hutabarat, Chief Representative, Bank Indonesia London Office
- Paul Smith, Chairman, NashTech Outsourcing and Vice Chairman, UK-ASEAN Business Council.
Moderated By: Dr Ramon Pacheco Pardo, Senior Lecturer in International Relations, Department of European & International Studies, King’s College London
